How we work

We build with technology we really understand — and we make the most of it for the customer.

Our experience is with open-source technology — software you can look inside, run anywhere and leave whenever you want. We rely on our own understanding of how it works, not on a vendor's promise that it does. That's also why we don't build on products that lock you in; we stay vendor-agnostic on purpose. We've worked with the big vendors too and we still do when it fits, but they're not our go-to option. In fact, we don't have one: every solution is put together for the specific need in front of us.

Daniel GrigoreWho's behind upSigma

Daniel Grigore. Over 15 years in infrastructure and security — from senior systems and infrastructure roles in banking and automotive, through service delivery in telecom, to IT manager and team leader for networking and security. Certified on the big vendors (Cisco, Check Point, Fortinet) and a long-time advocate of Linux and open source — he knows the vendor world well enough to not play its games. Along the way, one thing kept repeating: the technology was rarely the problem. What broke things was nobody owning them — no documentation, no backups anyone had tested, no process for change. upSigma is the answer to that, offered to companies that want their IT set up properly and then owned by the people who use it.

How a first conversation goes

Half an hour. No slides. Nothing sold.

30 minutes, on the phone, online or at your office. We ask how we can help, what you have today and who uses it. We don't bring slides and we don't sell anything in that call. Within two working days you get a written proposal: what we'll do, what you'll have at the end, what it costs — fixed. If it's not for you, you've lost half an hour and gained a clearer picture of your own IT.

What we do — and what we don't

Said out loud, so nobody is surprised later.

We do
Design and build what you need
Host and maintain what we host — updates, backups, monitoring
Document everything and hand it over
Answer the phone after hand-over, by the hour, with a short report each time
We don't
Run your IT day to day
Sit at a helpdesk for your staff
Sell you things you don't need yet
Resell licences with a margin
Recommend a product because someone pays us to
What that means for you

Practical consequences, not philosophy.

Read it

You can read what you bought.

Every proposal names what we'll set up and why, in your language. If a term needs explaining, we explain it — that's what the What we build with page is for.

Leave it

Nothing depends on us staying.

The software is public, the documentation is yours, the data exports. Another partner can pick up where we left off; we'd rather be kept because we're useful than because leaving is hard.

No surprises

No licence surprises.

The tools we build with don't change their price or their rules on you. Where you already pay a vendor — Microsoft 365, Google Workspace — we set it up properly instead of replacing it.

No invented problems

We don't invent problems.

If what you have is fine, the check-up says so and we go home.

The tools we trust, and why
What comes with everything we host

Daily backups kept for 30 days · the security certificate · spam and virus filtering on mail · servers in the EU · your name on the domain, the data and the accounts · documentation you can hand to the next person.

Want the same for the systems you run yourself — your own server, your own mail, your internal tools? That's what Managed & Hosted Services is for.

Questions we always get

Eight answers before you have to ask.

How long does it take?

A website 3–5 weeks; email one week; the full Online Office 4–6 weeks. Networks and servers depend on the building — the check-up tells you.

What happens after hand-over?

What we host, we keep running — that's in the monthly fee. Everything else is a phone call, billed by the hour, with a short report afterwards.

Do I need to understand the technology?

No. You need to know what you want your company to be able to do. The rest is our job, in your language.

Where is my data?

On servers in the EU, backed up daily, under your name. If we part ways, we hand everything over.

Can I leave?

Yes, at any time. Domain, data, accounts and documentation are yours from day one; we hand over to whoever comes next.

Why are there no prices on the site?

Because a website for a workshop and one for a clinic are different jobs. You'll have a number in the first conversation, and a fixed one in the proposal.

Do you use open-source software? Which?

Yes, almost everywhere — mail, files, monitoring, backups, network. Not because it's free, but because it's good and it doesn't lock you in. The list, with a line on each, is on What we build with. Where you already pay for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, we work with that too — we set it up properly instead of replacing it.

Do you work outside Bucharest?

Yes — most of what we do is remote; for networks and check-ups we travel.
